Discover the Art of Handbuilt Ceramics Handbuilding is one of the most expressive and intuitive ways to work with clay. Unlike the pottery wheel, it allows you to slow down, shape forms freely, and explore texture, structure, and design with your hands. In this special workshop series, you will learn how to create a unique cubist-inspired vase, exploring geometry, composition, and surface design. Each piece becomes a small sculpture — personal, imperfect, and full of character. This course is designed for beginners and intermediate students who want to experience a more artistic and sculptural approach to ceramics. What You Will Learn Over the course of 4 sessions, you will be guided through the full creative process: 1. Inspiration & Design We begin by exploring cubist forms and visual references. You will sketch ideas and create paper stencils that will guide your ceramic construction. 2–3. Building with Slabs You will learn how to roll, cut, and shape clay slabs using your templates. We will focus on: • Structure and balance • Joining techniques • Creating clean edges and intentional forms By the end of these sessions, your vase will take shape. 4. Surface & Glazing In the final session, you will decorate your piece using: • Underglazes for color and detail • Glazes for finish and texture This step brings your work to life, enhancing the geometric forms with color and contrast. Workshop Details • Duration: 4 classes • Session length: 2 hours each • Level: Beginner to Intermediate • Group size: Small (max 8 participants) All materials are included: • Clay • Tools • Underglazes and glazes • Kiln firing Your finished vase will be ready for pickup approximately 1 week after the final class.
